The inspiration for this collection is derived from the observation of garments worn by housewives of the 1950’s and 1960’s and female office workers of the 1960’s and 1980’s. Archetypes from these wardrobes are deconstructed through the process of reconfiguring second-hand clothes with classic silhouettes.
Each garment incorporates specific life and work scenes to develop the characters ‘costumed’ through the collection. Each look has at least two ways of wearing and the hardware of office stationary, including clip folders and coil binds connect different garments compiled as ‘wardrobe folders’. A mixing of colour, pattern and layering are enabled by this method also.
‘the very first time in a while…’, Master of Fashion (Design) Graduate Show, 2021.
Presented by RMIT School of Fashion and Textiles and supported by The Capitol. Look Book image at The Capitol, photography by Myles Pedlar.
Based on the metaphor of ‘chasing the limelight’ and ‘holding the perfect pose’ the spectacular stage and in between spaces of the theatre are activated. Models pose, walk, look and linger; who will make it to centre stage? Is this dream happening?
The film and look book concept was conceived and pitched by the students working closely with Ricarda Bigolin and Kate Meakin.
