‘(Ad)dressing the Inaccessible’ is a project born from witnessing clothing struggles with a disabled body firsthand. The project is a capsule collection of prototypes that challenge the style, function and comfort levels of adaptive clothing to address the needs of a disabled or impaired body. The project examines the relationship between the wearer and their body, creating a harmonious bond between the two that is so often disrupted when the wearer is forced to wear standard clothing. The project develops four innovative adaptations or ‘stories’ that place the body and the wearer at the centre of the garment’s function: magnets, flat lays, pleating and the roll/wrap method.
